Guide to choose the right paints for your interior projects

Paint is a material that is used to protect the surface on which it is deposited. It can be either in solid form or liquid form, which when applied on the surface sticks to it and hardens. A layer of film is formed which ads a specific feature on the surface on which it is applied. Apart from protecting the surface, the best interior designers in Bangalore use the paint to decorate the surface.

When the paint is applied on the surface it forms a continuous solid film and it has two purposes. They are

  • Protecting the surface from rusting, deterioration and corrupting of the materials.

  • Beautifying and embellishment of materials and surfaces.

Paint has wide variety of texture, color, finish and gross level. The paint protects the surface from UV-rays, moisture, chemicals, corrosion, algae, abrasion, etc.

A paint system is a composition of a sealer and primer, it has a top coat and an undercoat. The texture coating is provided based on the requirement of the design.

Primer and its importance.

In order to improve the adhesive property of the top coat, the first coat is applied to the surface. This is nothing but primer. Primer may be formulated to impart extra protection to the substrate.

Primer coating is a must for all the surfaces that needs to be painted. New drywall, aged wood, naked metal, a brick that has been painted previously or any other surface, a coating of primer is suggested by best interior designers in Bangalore for just about any paint job in their projects.

Primer is basically a sticky, flat paint that is intended to adhere well and to offer a reliable base for topcoats of the paint. It the paint is applied without applying the primer, then more coats of paint is required for adequate coverage and the paint might not properly adhere to the surface.

Importance of a Primer coating.

When the primer is applied on the new surface of the interior design work, it seals the original material in order to prevent the paint from soaking into it, requiring extra coats. The primer also helps in hiding the joints or seams, on the new drywall, and it stops the bleed-through from knots and other natural imperfections and colourings in the naked wood.

Primer having the properties to block the stains are used to cover the stains formed by the moulds and other discolouration to stop them from the finished coating of paint. The primer that is applied on masonry, metal, and several wooden surfaces are essential for adequate bonding of the paint.

Generally, the primer is available in white color but there are other neutral colors also. This is to offer a neutral surface to make sure that the paint colors appear true. It is not necessary to color the primer, but sometimes a small quantity of pigment is added to the primer in order to make it like the final color of the paint. This practice holds good when the final color is a lot thinner than the original color of the surface.
